Peninsula Politics Blog: City of Belmont 2 to be Elected
The Belmont City Council is one of two local councils in which the incumbents chose not to run for reelection. This has left an opening for new candidates. The leaders in this race are, unquestionably, Planning Commissioner Christine Wozniak and local activist David Braunstein. full story...
Jon Mays' Editorial in the San Mateo Daily Journal
Both Christine Wozniak and David Braunstein have solid credentials but Braunstein pulled out of the race at the last minute. There was some discussion of Warden running a write-in campaign, but Braunstein had a change of heart and decided to give the run a go. Though many voters may have turned off by Braunstein’s waffling, he has proven to have a firm grasp of the city’s issues and has become a viable candidate. Look for both Wozniak and Braunstein to win since both seem to have a handle on what the majority of this election’s voters will want in city leadership. full story...

Wozniak, on the other hand, has what it takes to make a smooth transition to the council. With more than four years on the Planning Commission, she understands what issues are important to the people of Belmont. She understands the l
look and feel of the city and how to retain its livability. She has long been active in the city starting with neighborhood associations and is a strong supporter of Belmont Historical Society, Belmont Library Fund, Friends of the Library, School-Force and San Juan Canyon Trust.
She is interested in revitalizing downtown, preserving open space and creating better dialogue between the city and its businesses. Her experience, smarts and ideas should enable her to hit the ground running.
...Though the race has been marked with some confusion, ultimately Wozniak.... has the right blend of both experience, fresh ideas and enthusiam that will serve the city well into the future.
San Mateo Daily News Editorial, Friday Oct 12: Wozniak and Braunstein for council
The race for Belmont City Council has taken some surprising turns but we think that, as the dust settles, Christine Wozniak and David Braunstein have emerged as the strongest candidates.
Braunstein, a teacher at Carlmont High School, had left the race for what he later described as family issues. That left only one candidate - Wozniak - with deep roots in the city.
Wozniak, a planning commissioner, seems like an easy choice for one of the two seats up for grabs. She promises to support downtown development and incentives for walking and mass transit. Wozniak knows the city well and shouldn't need to do a lot of homework if elected.....Both Wozniak and Braunstein have a good grasp of where the city's been and where it needs to go. We recommend them both. full story...
